Andrea D. Mata, Ph.D

Guest Speaker

In this talk, Dr. Andrea Mata will explore the crucial role of family dynamics in suicide prevention. By fostering environments where everyone feels included, contributes meaningfully, and experiences psychological safety, we can address key predictors of people who have died by suicide. Join us to learn actionable strategies for building stronger, more supportive families to help stomp out suicide.

Andrea D. Mata, Ph.D. is a clinical child psychologist specializing in treating antisocial and aggressive behaviors in children and teens. She has spent 20 years in the trenches alongside parents raising some of the most antisocial and aggressive kids in America. In 2021, she founded BrightSpot Families, an organization on a mission to fortify families everywhere.

Liz Baker

Guest Speaker

Liz Baker is the Community Engagement Chair, Board Secretary, and Lansing Out of the Darkness Walk Chair for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Michigan Chapter.

As a suicide loss survivor and fellow mental health warrior, Liz will be sharing her story of survival and hope at this event.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

This year’s event will feature LIVE MUSIC, activities to honor and remember those who struggle or who have been lost to suicide, sharing of stories, door prizes, a booth walk, and at dusk there will be a LUMINARY WALK through downtown Jackson to honor lives lost to suicide.

Luminary Walk

An opportunity to show support, honor a loved one, or spread positivity. Decorated luminary bags will line our walking path at dusk as we walk through downtown Jackson.

Passport Booths

Stock up on valuable resources, classes, and community supports. Fill out all your passport stamps to be entered to win fantastic door prizes.

Luminary Bags

Decorate a luminary bag that will light our path during the luminary walk.

Selection of Beads

Select beads to wear during the event to show your support of various communities.

Pebbles of Positivity

Painting stones that will be distributed throughout downtown Jackson to spread messages of hope.

Meditation Session

Participate in a guided meditation led by a professional to find inner peace and relaxation.

Letters of Hope

Write short messages of encouragement and support to individuals who might be struggling. The Jackson County Suicide Prevention Coalition will be sharing these to social media throughout the year.

As a passport booth sponsor, you will impact over 150 attendees who need to visit all booths for a chance to win door prizes. As a sponsor, you can provide resources, giveaways, or demonstrations before stamping passports. We are especially looking for support in offering resources to areas that face higher suicide risks.

Proceeds from Yard Sign Sponsorships supports vital mental health initiatives in Jackson County and spreads hope and awareness. If you attend the event you can take your yard sign home as a keepsake or put in your own lawn for the duration of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
